STOLEN WORK VEHICLE RECOVERED, DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED IN GRAVENHURST

GRAVENHURST — A man charged with stealing a work vehicle also faces impaired driving and several other charges.

Police say that last Sunday morning, March 19, at 7:15 a.m., a worker called police to say that while out on foot conducting maintenance work on Muskoka Road South in Gravenhurst their vehicle was stolen.

A short time later a member of the public called police to report a possible impaired driver in the same vehicle at a service station south on Hwy. 11 south, south of Gravenhurst.

The stolen vehicle stuck another vehicle, in which no one was inside, in the parking lot before continuing south on Hwy. 11.

Police located the vehicle nearby in the area of Picard Lane where they were able to conduct a traffic stop.

Officers arrested and charged 34-year-old Brandon Tonna, of Gravenhurst, with Theft of Motor Vehicle CC 333.1, Flight from Peace Officer CC 320.15(1), Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), Failure to Comply with Demand CC 320.15(1) and Fraud Under $5000 CC 380(1)(b) along with Highway Traffic Act offenses.

Tonna is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice May 9, 2023.
