DRIVER TAKES OUT FENCE OUTSIDE POLICE/FIRE STATION IN GRAVENHURST EARLY SUNDAY

GRAVENHURST — Police and firefighters didn’t have far to go responding to single-vehicle crash early this morning.

A car left the road shearing a tree in the process when it crashed into a fence next to their joint emergency services office downtown.

The OPP say officers, along with Muskoka EMS, and Gravenhurst fire department were called to the collision at 1:30 a.m., Sunday, March 26, when a driver went through fencing on First Street.

The lone occupant made his way out of the driver’s side window without injury.

Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Thomas Benns-Bowes, of Gravenhurst with Impaired Operation of a Vehicle CC 320.14(1)(a) and Failure or refusal to comply with demand CC 320.15(1).

Benns-Bowes is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice April 25, 2023.

As in all cases where Impaired Driving charges are laid, the Benns-Bowes’ drivers’ license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded.

The car suffered significant front-end damage on the driver’s side and took out part of a fence.
