ORILLIA MAN DRIVING WRONG WAY ON HWY. 11 FRIDAY FACES 2 IMPAIRED CHARGES
BRACEBRIDGE — An Orillia man stopped for driving the wrong direction on Hwy. 11 Friday night also faces dangerous driving and two charges of impaired operation of a vehicle.
Officers arrested and charged 52-year-old Garret Allison after he failed to stop for police after March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Police received numerous calls reporting a pick-up truck driving the wrong way on Hwy. 11 near Stephenson Road 1 in Bracebridge.
They say concerned members of the public all reported the vehicle nearly caused multiple head-on collisions, including one with police.
Police conducted a traffic stop shortly after of the suspect vehicle and say there were no accidents or injuries.
Following an investigation, police charged Allison with:
- Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a)
- Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(b)
- Dangerous operation CC 320.13(1)
- Obstruct Peace Officer CC 129(a)
- Failure ore refusal to comply with demand CC 320.15(1)
- Mischief CC 430(1)(c)
- Drive wrong way-divided highway HTA 156(1)(a)
- Fail to stop for police HTA 216(1)
Allison is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, ON on April 25, 2023. Police say they would also like to thank those members of the community for reporting this potentially dangerous situation and appreciate ongoing efforts from the community for keeping everyone safe.
