P.E.I. DRIVER CHARGED WITH HITTING PARKED CAR IN GRAVENHURST FRIDAY

GRAVENHURST — Last week had to be some kind of record for the number of impaired driving charges in south Muskoka.

A sixth case was reported Friday — the second that day, Jan 20.

Police say that just before 11 p.m. another concerned citizen called 911 when they saw a vehicle hit a parked car on Brock Street in Gravenhurst.

Moments later an officer who was in the vicinity of the collision located the vehicle near Hotchkiss Street.

Further investigation led to the arrest of 34-year-old Gilles Barriault, of Prince Edward Island.

He was charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Fail to remain HTA 200(1)(a)
  • Disobey stop sign HA 136(1)(a)
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available LLCA 42(1)(b)

Barriault is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Feb. 14, 2023.

A man from out of province faces multiple charges including impaired driving after a vehicle was seening hitting a parked car in Gravenhurst late Friday night downtown.
