FUEL TRUCK FIRE THIS MORNING SOUTH OF GRAVENHURST CLOSES HWY. 11

GRAVENHURST — A close call early this morning closed Hwy. 11 south of Gravenhurst.

Emergency crews were called out at 3:52 a.m., Dec. 2, for a tractor trailer fire near Sparrow Lake Route D. on the northbound lanes.

The vehicle was hauling diesel fuel and it was initially feared the contents may ignite.

After a risk assessment it was determined the fire was contained to the undercarriage, and wouldn’t spread to the fuel tanker above.

Fortunately the driver and no other drivers were hurt.

A second fuel tank hauler was ordered in to transfer the tanker fuel.

The highway was re-opened shortly after 5 a.m.
