‘DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING ….’ SNOWBIRDS MAKE FINAL FLIGHT OVER GRAVENHURST THIS AFTERNOON ‘SOOOOO COOOOL’

GRAVENHURST — Look … up in the sky!

Is it a bird, is it a plane … ?

It was both … the Snowbirds just after noon today.

The famed flyers were spotted by several people in town who did all of a sudden look up — those just sitting in their front yard to people on the beach at Gull Lake Rotary Park Thursday.

Even at the Muskoka Airport they were surprised to see them fly over northbound.

But they didn’t land to gas up, said the operations desk who weren’t alerted about them coming by.

Councillor Jo Morphy posted pictures online: “We didn’t see that coming. What a day!”

Nobody did.

And from Elaine Vinnels: “WOW!!!! Snowbirds just flew over Gravenhurst!!! SOOOOO COOOOOL!!!!! ”

Many heard the roar as they flew “low over the town” and were thrilled and surprise to see them coming out of the southern skies.

It reminded many of their last performance here in 2000 when they were the headline performers at the Muskoka Airshow.

The Snowbirds were likely headed north Kapuskasing for after a show Sept. 12 on their farewell tour after they flew in the CNE’s Toronto Air Show Sept. 5-6.

On Sept. 13 they make their final Ontario flights in Spenceville, in eastern Ontario near Smith Falls.

In October they have a couple of performances in California.

Before their final performance at the Grey Cup in Calgary.

After that they will be grounded before taking flights again in new planes in the early 1930s.
