BOYER LAUNCHES VOL. III OF MUSKOKA HERITAGE NUGGETS SATURDAY — MORE OF HIS FUN, FACT-BASED STORIES FROM THE PAST

BRACEBRIDGE — A couple years ago, Muskoka author Cheryl Cooper had the idea that fellow writer, novelist, columnist and local historian Patrick Boyer should gather his many diverse feature articles, published in various Muskoka publications over the past 20 or more years between the covers of a book making them easily accessible for the public.

Turns out there have been so many articles that this blossomed into a series, “Muskoka Heritage Nuggets.”

After months — if not years editing them — Boyer has launched the third volume.

Saturday morning Cooper will be at the Bracebridge Library, at 10:30 a.m., to introduce her friend and congratulate him on his latest compendium.

And welcome Muskokans to hear snippets of his decades of writing and reporting that have informed and entertained readers of most of the major news and views publications of the district — legacy and now on social media.

In her preface to Volume III, Gravenhurst archivist and citizen of the year Judy Humphries says the stories made her reflect on her own childhood growing up.

And how great stories do that by drawing in readers and letting them feel a part of the characters and what’s happening to them.

His wide-ranging subjects were assigned by savvy Muskoka publishers attuned to topics of popular appeal. Richly illustrated with 149 photographs and 15 illustrations, the 14 “nuggets” include Chief Musquakie, Muskoka Bridges, Muskoka’s Hospitals, First Bank, Photographing Muskoka, Muskoka Electricity, Gold Diggers, Treating Tumours, Bigwin Inn, and Windermere House.
