THEFT IN PROGRESS CALL LEADS POLICE TO ARREST 3 OF 4 SUSPECTS

GRAVENHURST — A theft in progress call led to police to spring in to action here Tuesday morning.

The OPP are investigating a string of thefts May 23 between 8:30 a.m. and noon in a commercial area in Gravenhurst.

Officers responded to the initial complaint where it was reported that suspects had stolen hanging baskets and soil and were in the process of collecting evidence.

That’s when the victim called back to report that the suspects had returned.

Police were quick to arrest three suspects and identified a fourth suspect.

An investigation revealed four commercial businesses were victimized.

Police have charged 48-year-old Salem Berday, of Bracebridge, with Theft Under $5,000 CC 334(b) and Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking CDSA 5(2). Berday is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice July 4, 2023.

Also arrested was 31-year-old Julia Dann, of Gravenhurst, who is charged with Theft Under $5000 CC 334(b). Dann is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on June 27th, 2023 to answer to her charge.

Aurel Wink, 42, of Gravenhurst was charged with Theft Under $5000 CC 334(b) X 2 and Possession of Schedule I Substance CDSA4(1). Wink was held for a bail hearing on May 24, 2023 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.
