GRAVENHURST — A family of three, including a baby, were pulled from their car after being trapped when it collided with a cement truck that rolled over on Bethune Drive late this morning.
Traffic at the intersection of Muskoka Road south and Bethune Drive was closed Wednesday for an air ambulance to land and take off for Toronto with the car’s driver.
Emergency crews were on scene shortly after 11 a.m. to pull three people — grandparents and the young child — from the car.
Police say Gravenhurst firefighters worked quickly to extricate the occupants, including one small child who was fortunately unharmed thanks to a properly installed child car seat.
The driver was transported by air to a Toronto area hospital and the passengers by land ambulance to a local hospital, both with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident on the northwest corner of Bethune Drive happened between downpours of rain at about 10:45 a.m., say witnesses.
The truck driver escaped injury.
OPP traffic investigators are on the scene trying to determine the cause.
It appears the car was southbound on Bethune and the truck northbound on the same road.
Traffic headed into Gravenhurst from Hwy. 11 was detoured around Bethune and up Muskoka Road through the downtown early this afternoon.
Anyone with information or dash camera footage that may have captured the event are asked to please call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

My heart breaks for the family in the car. I can picture exactly how this accident happened because I narrowly missed a similar fate at that exact spot. Traffic going WAY over the speed limit from the highway and try to make that right hand turn everyday. The town, district and highway officials must do something and that curve….and Fast!
