ACCIDENT INVOLVING WRONG-WAY DRIVER CLAIMS ONE PERSON EARLY SATURDAY IN TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION BETWEEN GRAVENHURST AND ORILLIA

SEVERN TOWNSHIP — One person is dead and another driver ended up in hospital after a 4 a.m. northbound crash on Hwy. 11 yesterday morning.

Police in Orillia are investigating after officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to a serious two-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and SUV on Saturday, October 10.

The accident involved a wrong way driver near South Sparrow Lake Road/Goldstein Road, in Severn Township — between Gravenhurst and Huntsville

As a result one driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the other driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Highway 11 northbound was closed in both directions between Grayshott Road and Goldstein Road/South Sparrow Lake Road for several hours while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team assisted with the investigation. The roadway has since reopened.
