$100,000 BOAT STOLEN, RECOVERED IN GRAVENHURST LAST WEEKEND AFTER NEARBY THEFT AND ATTEMPTED THEFT OF SECOND BOAT

GRAVENHURST — Thieves went relatively cheap when they drove off with a newish boat valued at $100,000 the same weekend as the annual Antique and Classic Boat Show.

But they didn’t get far with the watercraft after their comically clumsy attempt, say neighbours.

Though the black 24-foot, 2023 Sea Ray was not in the ACBS show, it was parked in the far away parking lot at the west end of the Muskoka Wharf.

Police are seeking information in relation to the theft and another attempted theft of a second boat next to the Ditchburn and Greavette condos and a boat launch.

On July 12 officers responded to a report of a stolen boat that occurred sometime between Friday, July 10, and early Sunday morning July 12.

The ACBS was Saturday.

The stolen boat was valued at approximately $100,000 and had been docked at Dock E, located at 165 Steamship Bay Road, at the Muskoka Wharf on Gravenhurst.

It was taken away on a trailer that was also stolen from the Gravenhurst Wharf after a lock was broken and it was put on the wrong type of trailer for the belt said a neighbouring boathouse owner.

The boat and trailer were later recovered, abandoned, on Sedore Road at the south end of Gravenhurst after apparent issues arose with the trailer and it fell off with a flat tire.

According to members of the public the boat and trailer had been on Sedore Road since early Sunday.

The police investigation also revealed a second boat, a 2023 Dayliner VR5, had been tampered with, possibly with the intention of stealing it.

That was located at Dock D at the Gravenhurst Wharf.

Police are asking anyone in the area of Steamship Bay Road, North Muldrew Lake Road, James Street and Muskoka Road to check any surveillance cameras for images of the stolen boat, in particular during the overnight to early morning hours of July 11-12.

They say their investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at Bracebridge at 1-888-310-1122.

The incident number is E260990992.

Another attempted appears to have been made at the gate D dock next to the Muskoka Discovery Centre.
