SHOPLIFTING AT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE IN BRACEBRIDGE LEADS TO SUSPECT BEING CHARGED WITH THEFT YESTERDAY

BRACEBRIDGE — From second hand to allegedly light-handed.
A man located in Port Carling yesterday was in bail court here this morning accused of shoplifting items Wednesday morning from a second-hand retailer.
Officers responded Thursday to a report of a theft the day before from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Muskoka Road 118 in Bracebridge.
Police received tips from members of the public and were able to locate the suspect at an address in Port Carling.
There they arrested and charged 41-year-old Brendan Vanschepen, of Clyne, with:
- Theft Under $5000
- Operation while Prohibited
- And suspended driving
Vanschepen was in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, for a bail hearing on June 12, 2026.
