YOUNG WRONG-WAY DRIVER FACES 8 CHARGES, INCLUDING IMPAIRED OPERATION AND STOLEN PROPERTY AFTER HWY. 11 ACCIDENT

GRAVENHURST — A 20-year-old driver headed southbound on Hwy. 11 Tuesday afternoon was pulled over by police and faces eight charges included impaired operation.

On April 22, at 4:10 p.m., officers, along with a member of the Central region OPP SAVE team, responded to multiple reports of an aggressive driver travelling north in the southbound lanes of Highway 11, just south of Gravenhurst.

Drivers reported having to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision.

Police located the vehicle and subsequently arrested and charged 20-year-old Wabin Edwards, of Fort Albany, Ont., with the following:

  • Operation while impaired CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Dangerous operation CC 320.13(1)
  • Failure to stop after accident CC 320.16(1)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime CC 354(1)(a)
  • Drive wrong way-divided highway HTA 156(1)(a)
  • Young driver- B.A.C. above zero HTA 44.1(5)
  • Class G1 licence holder-unaccompanied by qualified driver.

Edwards was in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 22, 2026 for a bail hearing.

The Port Albany woman faces eight charges following a collision on Hwy. 11 just south of Gravenhurst Tuesday.
