Residents and visitors should expect lake water levels to continue to rise and river flows to remain high.

Extreme caution is urged – especially where children are concerned.

No ice is safe ice.

Some lakes within the area are still covered in ice. And increased water levels and precipitation may erode the ice and create floating ice hazards that could damage waterfront infrastructure.

Anyone planning to venture onto the ice should check the ice conditions often, plan ahead, and be prepared for an emergency.

As water levels continue to increase significantly along with snowmelt flows through the water system, towns and townships strongly advising property owners and businesses to take the necessary precautions to protect and secure their property for more flooding.

Free sand bags widely available from all municipalities.

Taran Kaur, Rabia Kaur and Vick Singh, of Toronto, watched the waters rise in Gravenhurst this week at both Gull Lake and Lake Muskoka. Behind them is the steamship Segwun, which is undergoing major restoration work that will have it out of commission most of the summer.

Several roads in Muskoka already closed

Including in Gravenhurst:

  • Sparrow Lake Route D

In Huntsville:

The Town of Gravenhurst has two roads closed due to flooding, this one on North Muldrew Lake and a second one issues late Wednesday afternoon closing Sparrow Lake Route D.

The MINR strongly advises caution around all water bodies like Gull Lake Park, here in Gravenhurst, and on rivers and even small streams.
While rising water levels this time of year are not new, they remain a concern for many residents and waterside property owners who experienced devastation from flooding in many previous years.
Rains have also affected urban areas like this commercial parking lot in Gravenhurst at the Southgate Plaza that was blocked off this week again where it has experienced an annual large flooding.
Gull Lake, whic was packed with spectators standing on the lake watching the snowmobile puddle jumping for the winter carnival, has barely a few inches of ice on it today.
Life boats from the Muskoka Steamships sit safely away from the water where they’ve received repairs in recent times as part of historical restorations.
