MAHC’S CHIEF OF STAFF RETIRING AT END OF AUGUST; BOARD TO BEGIN REPLACEMENT SEARCH WITHIN WEEKS

MUSKOKA — Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare will soon begin a search for a new chief of staff after announcing today that Dr. Khaled Abdel-Razek will retire August 31.

They say in a release today that the hospitals’ board will initiate a recruitment process in the coming weeks. A selection committee, including representatives from credentialed staff, will guide the process.

Abdel-Razek was at the centre of controversial public talks about the futures of SMMH and HDMH helping defending medical plans for restructuring that could see the division of beds and many services more heavily weighted in Huntsville. Along with the recent move of obstetrics services from Bracebridge to Huntsville. He is also listed as an obstetician at the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, according to an College of Physcians and Surgeons of Ontario website registry.

MAHC says he made notable strides in advancing quality care, investing in professional development for physicians, and strengthening clinical services. It says he oversaw the modernization of the hospitalist program, resulting in improved patient care coverage and responsiveness at both sites. And he championed the establishment of a formal quality of care committee and the creation of two dedicated quality lead roles, reinforcing MAHC’s commitment to continuous quality improvement.

They added that MAHC achieved measurable improvements in operational performance, including reductions in patient length of stay supporting more efficient and effective care delivery.

They said Abdel-Razek also played a key role in expanding physician leadership capacity, and advancing priorities in clinical care, utilization, regional partnerships, and capital redevelopment.
