CENTRAL ONTARIO — The local school board has a new chair and vice chair today.
Last night Trillium Lakelands District School Board elected Kawartha City trustee Colleen Wilcox as chair and Bracebridge trustee Esther Childs was elected vice-chair.
Bruce Reain remains as past chair, says TLDSB release.
The position of chair is held from the date of the election until the next organizational meeting, which is December 3 next year when an election is held again.
TLDSB has 41 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, six adult and alternate education centres and a virtual learning centre. They serve approximately 17,000 students.
Wilcox has been a trustee for the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) Ward 7 for the past eight years. Ward 7 includes Jack Callaghan Public School, King Albert Public School, Leslie Frost Public School, I.E. Weldon Secondary School, the Lindsay Adult and Alternate Education Centre (AAEC), and the Virtual Learning Centre.

“Over the last eight years, I’ve observed, participated, and learned about the importance of the role of trustee in a community,” says Wilcox in a release.
“In the last two years, I’ve become more involved and have had many wonderful mentors – all of which has prepared me for the role of chair.”
Wilcox loves to read, golf, and entertain family and friends. A jack of all trades, she officiates at weddings and works part-time in her husband’s architectural firm.

Prior to becoming a trustee, Childs was an educator in TLDSB since 1999, holding various positions from kindergarten to specialized education classes. She has a strong passion for equity, inclusion, wellness, and achievement.
