COVID OUTBREAK AT HUNTSVILLE HOSPITAL SEES SOUTH WING VISITOR RESTRICTIONS

HUNTSVILLE — COVID’s rapid return has another health care facility reporting an outbreak.

Visiting to the South Wing inpatient unit at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site has been suspended after a unit-specific COVID-19 outbreak was declared in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

“For safety reasons, visiting restrictions are in place until further notice for South Wing at the Huntsville site,” president and CEO Cheryl Harrison said in a release Monday.

It is the second report form MAHC, which also saw a larger-scale outbreak at its South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge recently that was resolved.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this outbreak as we try to keep everyone safe. Exceptions will be made for essential caregivers and other special circumstances,” Harrison said.

Testing of patients and staff continues to occur as part of outbreak management protocols, and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread.

Other health facilities, including retirement and LTC homes, have also been affected by COVID this fall.

The south wing at HDMH is the latest MAHC hospital to be hit with this fall’s COVID spread.
