MUSKOKA LAKES DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING AFTER FLEEING POLICE

MUSKOKA LAKES Police arrested a driver who fled officers late yesterday morning, charging him with impaired operation of a vehicle.

They say officers attempted to stop David Grand, 63, at 11:30 p.m., when his driving behaviour appeared of concern to them.

Officers were on general patrol, Jan. 18, on Muskoka Road 169 in Muskoka Lakes Township, when they attempted to stop the vehicle.

They say it continued into a driveway and Grand got out and walked toward the residence.

Police arrested the Muskoka Lakes Township man. charging him with Flight from Peace Officer CC 320.17, Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a).

Police added a correction Friday, Jan. 20, noting that while Grand was charged with Flight from Peace Officer CC 320.17 and Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), an additional charge of Operation While Impaired- Over 80 CC320.14(1)(b) has not yet been laid, so the accused’s drivers licence as not been suspended.

Grand is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, Feb. 7, 2023.

As in all cases of impaired driving, the vehicle was impounded.
