GRAVENHURST — So much for drag and drop.

A tech-savvy suspect is accused flying a drone to drop illegal contraband into the Beaver Creek Correctional Institution in Gravenhurst last night.

Police say neighbours called the OPP to report a trespasser, who they say was flying a drone in the area and that crashed.

Officers responded and found a man who was charged with trespassing and was searching for his downed drone.

After an investigation, police seized a drone and several prohibited inside the federal prison

Police charged 24-year-old Fabrice Ricourt-Casseus, of Ottawa, with:

  • Possession of Schedule 1 Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of Schedule 1 Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of Contraband before Visitor Control Point at a Penitentiary, CCRA 45(b)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing Cannabis, CA 9(2)
  • Trespass by Night, CC177
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, CC354(1)(a)

Ricourt-Casseus is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge March 21, 2023.

Over the years several people have been accused of trespassing on private property, traipsing through nearby bush and snow to smuggle drugs into the prison by tossing them over the fencing.

Police seized this drone and these drugs last night, after 7 p.m., outside the Beaver Creek prison.
