MUSKOKA — The new year began anew as with an end to the old.

Police in Bracebridge laid their first impaired charge of 2023 on Jan. 1 — after arresting three others in the final week of 2022.

None were on New Year’s Eve or morn.

On Sunday, Jan. 1, officers responded to concerns from members of the public about a motorist who was parked at an intersection, not moving, on Wharf Road in Bracebridge just before 12:15 a.m.

Officers quickly found and charged Amy Snow, 52, of Bracebridge, with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Snow is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, Jan. 17.

Her arrest follows three other drivers charged with related Impaired Driving offences during the major weather event and subsequent clean-up between Dec. 24-28.

On Christmas Eve, just after 10:30 p.m., in the midst of heavy snowfall, an officer stopped to assist a motorist who had lodged his vehicle in a snowbank on Ecclestone Drive in Bracebridge and was obstructing traffic.

Police charged 31-year-old Liam Dursley-Radford, of Bracebridge, with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Dursley is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, Jan. 31, 2023.

On Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 5:45 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Ecclestone Drive in Bracebridge, after motorists reported seeing a pick-up truck lose control and strike another.

Officers investigated, charging Bryan Campbell, 36, of Washago, with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Campbell is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, Jan. 17, 2023.

The following day, Wednesday Dec. 28, just before 6 p.m., police and Muskoka EMS responded to a single-vehicle collision on Hwy. 11 south, just north of Taylor Road in Bracebridge.

A vehicle left the roadway and flipped, coming to rest in the ditch.

Officers arrived and were able to free the driver, who was assessed at scene by paramedics.

As a result, 34-year-old Donald Austin, of Bracebridge, faces Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b) charges.

Austin is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, January 24, 2023.

In all four cases where impaired driving charges were laid, the accused’s drivers’ licences were suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded.

There were no New Year’s Eve charges, but four people were arrested over the holidays for impaired operation of vehicles.
