ORILLIA SILVER BAND ‘WALKABOUT’ SPRING CONCERT SUNDAY, 2 P.M., ORILLIA OPERA HOUSE

ORILLIA The Orillia Silver Band celebrates the warming spring season with a special ‘Walkabout Spring Concert’ Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m, Orillia Opera House.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students/children. They are available from the Opera House Box Office.

This is the band’s first full-group public concert since Christmas of 2021.

And the program, called Walkabout, promises to be an engaging look at music from around the world.

“There will be something for everyone’s taste on this musical ramble around the world” says Neil Barlow, the band’s music director and conductor.

Selections from classics to pops are all included on the playlist.

  • The program includes Suite for Brass, a beautiful four-movement arrangement
  • of traditional British folksongs compiled by John Rutter.
  • Peter Graham’s exciting Seize the Day is a full-throttle montage of American spirituals. British composer Philip Sparke’s hauntingly beautiful Aria will be performed by the band’s own horn soloist, Rita Arendz.
  • For those with a taste for the exotic but traditional, Luigini’s famous dance music from the Ballet Egyptien will be on offer.
  • They will also visit South America with the Argentine Melody by Andrew Lloyd-
  • Webber.
  • Of course, included is the program’s namesake: The Australian march
  • Walkabout by Ray Woodfield.
  • And the stirring WW2-era composition by Morton Gould called American Salute recalls some well-known folk music.
  • Also for those who like to attend concerts simply to dance, the Bandstand Boogie will
  • surely get you up on your feet.

Don’t miss this entertaining afternoon of springtime travel.
