5 COVID CASES PAST TWO DAYS IN MUSKOKA, AS SIMCOE REPORTS DEATH NO. 263

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Add 5 male cases to the rising COVID toll in Muskoka as kids vaccines could be a week to two away.

The past two days 99 cases were reported by the health unit.

They bring to 206 this week’s number. Last week it was 249 and 127 the last week of October.

The Muskoka cases all under investigation are:

  • Huntsville boy, under 18, reported Nov. 11, with a first episode Nov. 10
  • Huntsville boy, under 18, reported Nov. 11, with a first episode Nov. 8
  • Gravenhurst man, 35-44, reported Nov. 10, with a first episode Nov. 10
  • Huntsville man, 18-34, reported Nov. 10, with a first episode Nov. 1
  • Huntsville man, 35-44, reported Nov. 10, with a first episode Nov. 8

There was 1 more death in Simcoe.

This as Health Canada is expected to announce a decision on vaccine approval for children 5-11 within the latest two weeks.

Meanwhile, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reports that of the 99 cases since its last update Wednesday, 71 were among those unvaccinated, 26 were fully vaccinated and 2 partially vaccinated.

They didn’t report any cases yesterday, on Remembrance Day, though Public Health Ontario said there were 55.

The latest cases bring to just 4 shy of 14,500 to date since the pandemic began in March last year.

HEALTH UNIT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 14,496 cases to date
  • 206 new cases this week
  • 249 last week, which was nearly double the 127 cases the week of Oct. 24
  • From Dec. 22 there have been 513 cases among vaccinated individuals
  • 3 deaths in November, 2 each in October and September
  • From Sept. 12 to Nov. 6 the rate of COVID-19 infection among the unvaccinated vaccine-eligible Simcoe Muskoka population is 8 times higher than it is for fully vaccinated population and the rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 9 times higher
  • 4,008 Alpha variants of concern, 169 Gamma, 34 Beta, 1,878 Delta
  • 918,349 vaccines have been administered
  • 463,585 residents have had at least one vaccine, which represents 77% of the total population
  • 87% of the population 12+ have had one vaccine
  • 87% of youth 12 to 17 have also received at least one vaccine

Simcoe had another death yesterday, number 263. Muskoka’s death toll remains at 6.
