2 ACCUSED OF SMUGGLING DRUGS INTO BEAVER CREEK PRISON YESTERDAY

GRAVENHURST — Two young people have been caught and charged with drug possession and accused of trying sneak cannabis into the federal prison here yesterday.

Provincial police say that on Nov. 22 at 4 a.m. they were contacted by staff at the Beaver Creek Correctional facility about two packages that had been located on the facility property.

Prison security suspected they contained contraband drugs intended for inside the institution.

OPP officers conducted patrols of the area and located two people walking on an adjacent road.

After an investigation, police say they seized many items that are prohibited inside the correctional facility and arrested and charged 21-year-old Devon Frost, of Hamilton, and another 15-year-old Hamilton youth.

The young person’s identity is being withheld according to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The pair each face the following charges:

  • Delivering Contraband to an inmate CCRA 45 ( c) X 2
  • Distribute Dried Cannabis CA 9(1)(b)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing CA9(2)

Frost is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, January 11, 2022.
