SEVERN WOMAN, 67, IDENTIFIED AS DRIVER IN CP RAIL FATALITY SUNDAY AFTERNOON

SEVERN TOWNSHIP — The woman who died in train accident yesterday afternoon has been identified.

Police say Barbara Kitchen, 67, of Severn was killed after officers and emergency crews responded to the crash involving a train in the CP Rail line and a car at 2:18 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, on Upper Big Chute Road, Severn Township, and east of Port Severn and Coldwater.

The accident occurred at a rail crossing just east of the Irish Line, where Kitchen was driving a car and came into contact with a train.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being investigated by members of the OPP Central Region TIME Team of collision investigators.

Upper Big Chute Road was closed in to the evening while investigators completed their examination and the train and vehicle were removed.

Police say the rail crossing, which is marked with a red and white ‘X’ and red flashing lights, was reopened shortly before midnight after repairs were completed to the signal control box, which was damaged during the collision.
