43 WEEKEND COVID CASES INCLUDE: GRAVENHURST 2 AND BRACEBRIDGE 1

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Three of the 43 COVID cases this weekend in the region were in Muskoka.

The other 40 cases — along with 1 death — were in Simcoe, says the health unit in an update today.

The Muskoka cases all under investigation were:

  1. Gravenhurst girl, 0-17, reported yesterday, with a first episode the same day
  2. Bracebridge man, 45-64, reported Friday, with a first episode Thursday
  3. Gravenhurst man, 18-34, reported Friday, with a first episode Thursday

They come as the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reports 85 per cent of those 12+ have had one vaccine and 83 per cent of kids 12-17 are now vaccinated at least once.

Overall, 74.3 per cent of the total population has had one shot and 69 per cent of everyone is fully vaccinated.

This as SMDHU reports 6,000 variants, with 50 of them coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a total of 142 VOCs.

Of those 27 people were unvaccinated, 15 people fully vaccinated, and 3 partially vaccinated.

Vaughn Adamson has no need for a mute now that the Gravenhurst Bifocals Band is back in rehearsals at the Seniors’ Centre. Band members all got covers for their horns to prevent spread of COVID while playing without a mask and taking up the whole room while being spaced apart.

HEALTH UNIT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 19 cases this week; 105 last week, which was 26% lower than the 141 cases the week before
  • From December 22nd, 2020 onwards, there have been 244 confirmed COVID-19 cases among vaccinated individuals
  • 4 COVID-19 related death have been reported so far in September.
  • From August 1st to September 25th, the rate of COVID-19 infection among the unvaccinated vaccine-eligible Simcoe Muskoka population is 11 times higher than it is for fully vaccinated population and the rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 59 times higher
  • 4,007 Alpha variants of concern, 168 Gamma, 34 Beta, 1,128 Delta
  • 663 cases await confirmation of VOC
  • 875,502 vaccines have been administered in Simcoe Muskoka
  • 449,394 residents have received one vaccine, which represents 74% of the population
  • 85% of those 12+ have had one vaccine
  • 83% of youth 12 to 17 have also received one vaccine

Another death in Simcoe this weekend brings to 260 the number of people who have died.
