ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT … GBRC FALL CLASSIC RETURNS TO GULL LAKE
Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com
GRAVENHURST — There weren’t a lot of close finishes yesterday as the Georgian Bay Rowing Club returned to Gull Lake Rotary Park.
Only family photo finishes.
In fact not only were the racers spaced out in the blue water — but the heats featured staggeringly long gaps between races due to COVID protocols.
So this rowing regatta was definitely not a contact sport — save for the boats with more than one rower and a coxswain.
In a bid to keep as little contact between competitors as possible the heats were at a distance and at great times apart.
That was no problem on a bright fall day as rowers from several Ontario clubs dips their oars in the warm water as family, friends and fellow club members — like the Argonaut Rowing Club in Toronto — watched safely pitched on the hill overlooking Gull Lake.
