3 MUSKOKA CASES MONDAY AS COVID REFUSES TO GIVE UP

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Three Muskoka cases reported over the Canada Day weekend shows COVID stubbornly hanging on.

With two of three locals vaccinated and one in three double vaxxed the corona risk is close to third base — if not headed home like maybe the Jays at the end of the month.

Delta cases also rose to 57 in today’s counts.

The latest local cases — among 11 newly reported Monday in Simcoe-Muskoka since June 27 — are in Bracebridge and Huntsville.

  1. A Bracebridge woman, 65-79, is under investigation after being reported July 1 with a first episode June 30.
  2. A Huntsville woman, 45-64, who had close contact was reported June 30 and had a first episode June 29.
  3. A Huntsville man, 45-64, is under investigation after he was reported June 30 with a first episode June 28.

Six of the other cases were in Barrie.

They bring to 12,300 the total number of cases the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting since the pandemic began early last year.

Across the province, the 34 health units report 170 cases and 1 death.

Toronto had 27 — down from 42 yesterday. York remained at 4 (4) and Peel slipped up to 17 (12).

Up north here, North Bay-Parry Sound held at 1 (1) and Porcupine halved to 3 (6).

Quebec had just 47 cases and 1 death.

HEALTH UNIT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 3 new cases this week and 34 last week, which was 15% lower than the 40 cases the week of June 13.
  • 6 deaths in June, 18 in May, 25 in April, 12 in March
  • 3,993 Alpha variants, 164 Gamma, 32 Beta, 57 Delta
  • 674 cases await confirmation of VOC
  • 598,140+ vaccines have been administered in Simcoe Muskoka
  • 396,394+ residents have received their first vaccine, which represents almost 66% of the total population.
  • 76% of adults 18+ have had one vaccine
  • 59% of youth 12 to 17 have also had their first vaccine
Simcoe-Muskoka hit a milestone over the weekend with 12,300 COVID cases to date.

Optimism remains high for most other industries looking to hire back lost workers. However, 40 per cent of home workers think they will remain in place for at least a year before going back.
  • Porter Airlines won’t take off and land in Muskoka again this summer. Their planes will remain grounded until at least Sept. 8, when domestic flights are schedule to climb back into the clouds. They’ve been down since May 2020.
Keith Forsythe and others will have to hold on to those protective masks for at least a few weeks this summer despite two thirds of residents having had at least one vaccinations.
