SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Reports late this afternoon say the province will move to Stage 2 of its Roadmap to Reopening on June 30.

Just in time for Canada Day.

This as Simcoe-Muskoka’s health unit reports 33 Delta cases today.

Meanwhile, a spike in COVID cases is being driven by inmates being transferred to the provincial jail in Penetanguishene.

Dr. Charles Gardner told media yesterday that the Central North Correctional Centre is seeing the effects of those moves.

This afternoon — among 9 new cases the health unit is reporting — 5 were at an outbreak in Penetanguishene.

The other 4 cases were in Barrie, Wasaga Beach and 2 in Ramara and were from last week.

No new cases were reported in Muskoka Wednesday by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), which said 5 were from yesterday.

The SMDHU also says 33 of the overall cases are of the delta variant of concern.

This morning the province and Public Health Ontario reported 2 cases in Simcoe.

Meanwhile, North Bay-Parry Sound saw a major jump to 23 from 4 yesterday.

Toronto fell to 57 from 123, along with York at 10 (37). Peel slipped up to 25 (20).
