HUNTSVILLE A 16-year-old Lake of Bays girl was in bail court Friday charged with possession of drugs for trafficking after being arrested two days in a row.

She and a 23-year-old Huntsville woman were arrested and charged Thursday after police stopped them for speeding.

Provincial police say they charged the older woman driver with impaired and drug trafficking offences and the girl with drug trafficking offences as a result of a traffic stop.

They say that on May 6 an officer observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Cairns Drive in Huntsville and that the driver appeared to be showing signs of impairment.

A further investigation resulted in police finding controlled substances: of 25.33 grams of cocaine, 4.43 grams of crack cocaine and 25.87 grams of methamphetamine, which were seized.

Katrina Yakich has been charged with:

  • Three counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purposes of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drug, contrary to section 320.14(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The teen, who is not being named as a young person defined in the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), is charged with:

  • Three counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purposes of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

Both accused were released on an Undertaking with one of the conditions not to communicate directly or indirectly with each other.

But yesterday, Friday May 7, the OPP were made aware that Yakich and the youth were together.

Officers found them in each other’s company on Chaffey Road, Huntsville.

Yakich and the youth were arrested and charged again, this time for failure to comply with an Undertaking contrary to section 145 (4) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The youth offender was held for bail later in the day in the Ontario Court of Justice Youth Court Huntsville.

Yakich was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in June in the Ontario Court of Justice Huntsville.

Police arrested a woman, 23, and girl, 16, two days in a row after they were charged Thursday with drug trafficking.
