25 MUSKOKA CASES AMONG 367 PAST THREE DAYS IN REGION

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — More than two dozen Muskoka COVID cases are being reported this afternoon by the health unit.

This as all Ontario kids will move to online learning starting next week as the province said today it is keeping schools closed after this week’s spring break — with no date for a return to classes.

Premier Doug Ford made the announcement today on the first day of the spring break, which was delayed a month.

The 25 local cases are among 135 today in Simcoe-Muskoka, the province said this morning. The Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) counted 111.

Still it’s the third straight day regional cases topped 100 — and they reported 367 cases the past three days.

Meanwhile, Ontario’s total was 4,401 with 15 more deaths.

Toronto’s numbers were 1,282 (down from 1,353 Sunday), York 564 (444) and Peel 732 (860); Parry Sound 1 (0), Sudbury 21 (22).

Quebec reported 1,599 and 2 deaths; Manitoba 114 cases and no deaths.

HEALTH UNIT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 1,393 UK VOCS, 18 Brazil, 2 South Africa; 448 to be confirmed
  • 122,000+ vaccines administered
  • 18,300 have received both vaccines, mostly Pfizer
  • 5,600 AstraZeneca vaccine doses given out
  • 3,200 Moderna vaccines administered
  • 111 cases this week (yesterday)
  • 650 new cases last week (April 4-8), which was 25% higher than the 450 cases the week before (March 28-April 1).
  • 8 deaths in April, 12 in March
For the past three days the health unit is reporting 367 new cases – 111 alone Sunday.

IN OTHER COVID NEWS …

Students out today on the first day of spring break may be out of class for the rest of the year, as the province said they will all be moving to online learning next Monday.
