SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — As talk — and hope — begins switching to a vaccine in the early new year, new cases of COVID continue on high.

Simcoe posted 30 positive results today and Muskoka none.

That’s 159 since Sunday. Two weeks ago there were 200.

The running total is now 2,178, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Elsewhere across Ontario, the province is reporting 1,723 people with the virus. However 35 died because of it as of as of Wednesday Dec. 2.

In Quebec they had 1,514 people with the coronavirus and 43 deaths.

NOTES:

  • U.K. first Western country to approve vaccine. Its 67 million people in Europe’s worst-hit nation will soon see residents and staff in LTCs and people over age 80 receive the first does.
  • Canada, meanwhile, is waiting vaccine approval and a plan for when it will roll it out, where and to whom.
As the U.K. plans the first vaccine in the West, Canada is still working on a similar plan and Simcoe reports 30 cases of COVID today.
Thirty cases of COVID were reported today in Simcoe, bringing the total including Muskoka to 159 for the week since Sunday.
