MUSKOKA COTTAGER HEALTH EXPERT FEARS THIRD COVID WAVE POSSIBLE

GRAVENHURST — COVID is “definitely going to get worse before it gets better.”

And “a third wave always follows a second.”

That’s the stark messages delivered this morning to Gravenhurst Probus members in a virtual briefing from one of the country’s top medical advisers.

Dr. Andrew Morris, a Muldrew Lake cottager, told about 50 members of the social club was also optimistic about promising vaccines now in development, said neighbour John Twist.

Twist said he reached out to him two weeks ago to see if “per chance” he could give an update at the monthly meeting.

Morris said he is “swamped,” but agreed to for his “friend.”

Morris, who was quoted in a front page story today, Monday Nov. 16, told the Gravenhurst audience the “severity” of that third wave depends on how the world responds to it.

So far, he said, it’s not been looking good.

Twist quoted him as saying the “human species” is its worst enemy.

Morris said so far “we haven’t handled it very well.”

“We do it to ourselves.”

The oft-quoted infectious diseases physician at Sinai Health, University Health Network and the University of Toronto in Toronto, was while busily answering questions also fielding emails from the prime minister’s office.

He said in a Globe article last week: “I’m one of the people who thinks that it’s already spiralled out of control and we need to be more aggressive with how we’re dealing with it right now.”

The eminent physician is a well-followed blogger with the twitter hashtag #covidzero.

Dr. Andrew Morris, a Muldrew Lake cottager and national health expert, addressed the Gravenhurst Probus Club online this morning, saying he fears the worst ahead if more immediate measures by the public and health officials are not undertaken to staunch the pandemic.
