POLICE FINALLY GET THEIR DRUG SUSPECT MONTH LATER

GRAVENHURST — Two Torontonians arrested Sunday on drug charges were the result of a two-month investigation and a month-long pursuit after a fleeing suspect evaded police in an arrest stop on Hwy. 11.

Both were in bail court this morning in Bracebridge.

Provincial police say their Muskoka Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) had been working on a drug investigation in Gravenhurst since July.

Yesterday, Sept. 13, search warrants and arrests were executed with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) on the men aged 27 and 17.

They follow the CSCU’s attempt to arrest a male on Luigi Road in Gravenhurst Aug. 4.

During the arrest attempt the vehicle fled.

Police say they knew the male passenger and continued to investigate.

Finally they got their suspect using two Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrants.

Officers arrested an adult, and a young person, and seized approximately four (4) ounces of cocaine, oxycodone pills, and a quantity of Canadian Currency.

They charged Michael Estrada Suazo, 27, with fleeing police and drug possession in the months apart incidents:

He was charged for the Aug. 4 stop with:

Failure to Comply with Release Order – other than to attend court S. 145(5)(a) CCC

Flight from Peace Officer S. 320.17 CCC

Fail to Comply with Probation S. 733.1(1) CCC

And yesterday Suazo was charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking S. 5(2) CDSA

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 S. 354(1)(a) CCC

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Oxycodone S. 4(1) CDSA

Fail to Comply with Probation S. 733.1 CCC

Failure to Comply with Release Order – other than to attend court S. 145(5)(a) CCC

Failure to Comply with Release Order – other than to attend court S. 145(5)(a) CCC

The 17-year-old faces charges of:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking S. 5(2) CDSA

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 S. 354(1)(a) CCC

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Oxycodone S. 4(1) CDSA

Both accused were held for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Bracebridge on Sept. 14, 2020.

Police seized four ounces of cocaine, oxycodone pills, and cash with a search warrant yesterday in Gravenhurst.
