WENONAH II: IT’S A HOOT TO HEAR HER TOOT AGAIN

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

GRAVENHURST — Captain Glenn Murley is “happy” to be back behind the wheel of the Wenonah II and says it’s in “ship shape.”

After 21 years with the Muskoka Steamships, he’s plying the Muskoka Lakes for one- and two-hour cruises.

And it’s a hoot for everyone in town who are excited to hear him her toot her long whistle as she heads up the lake and returns to port.

Masks are mandatory and seating is limited to 75 now — down from 216 on the big ship.

And the Segwun — with just 100 passengers — won’t be operating this summer.

Wenonah II, named after the fleet’s first ship more than 150 years ago, goes out Tuesday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Not Monday or Friday.

It weighed anchor for the first time last Saturday and was carrying just 50 passengers a couple times a day until Thursday, when they added 25 more.

A small flotilla of pleasure craft accompanied her on her maiden voyage, including John and Mary Storey in their dippy.

They’re testing social distancing onboard and how passengers move about.

Everyone has to sign a form before boarding for contact tracing of the coronavirus.

Cleaning and sanitizing is constant throughout the cruise and between trips.

The cruises are one hour ($38.31 with tax) and two hours ($47.80 with tax).
