ORILLIA MAN SOUGHT AFTER HIT-RUN WITH OPP IN GRAVENHURST

GRAVENHURST — Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run with an officer yesterday.

On Tuesday Aug. 4, just after 3 p.m., the officer with the Highway Safety Division (HSD) Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team stopped the vehicle on Ferguson Road.

As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, police say two passengers jumped out and ran off.

And the vehicle sped away, say police, after it struck the officer.

The officer was able to follow the vehicle down Campfire Point Road and located the vehicle with the two passengers remaining.

However, the driver had also fled on foot.

The OPP canine unit responded with the assistance of the emergency response team (ERT) and conducted a search of the area without success.

Police are looking for the driver, Joshua Thompson, 43, of Orillia.
