‘NEW’ NATIONAL ANTHEM LYRICS REFLECT REGRET, PRIDE, HOPE FOR 154

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

MUSKOKA — On an over-heated Canada Day, when hyper-hydration is a called-for essential service, one’s mind wanders aimlessly in search of greater good for all Canadians.

Reflecting upon the mirage-like image of a Muskoka Lake shoreline and on one’s country as an island bobbing in a turbulent sea of global affears (sic).

And so gives thought, this year, to our pandemic place and what we stand for and mean to each other.

In that spirit here, humbly, are a few new optional turns of phrase for our national anthem, 2020, sung so hopefully and lustfully just 24 hours ago.

Here’s to 154 and more.

O Canada!

Our home and Indigenous land.

True multi-cultural love, in all our gender-neutrals’ command.

With hopeful hearts, we see thee rise.

The True North strong — and one day totally free and open to all.

From the Pacific to the Atlantic, the Great Lakes to the Arctic,

God keep our land glorious, green and treed.

O Canada, we kneel and stand on guard for ALL Canadians.

Feel free to add your own lyrics as you see fit. And take no offence, if neglected, for none intended.
