OFF-DUTY COP HIT BY ‘IMPAIRED’ TRUCKER

MUSKOKA LAKES TWP. — A tractor trailer driver faces an impaired driving charge after a collision Friday afternoon with an off-duty police officer who was driving their own vehicle.

Provincial police say in a release yesterday that on June 19 at 4:05 p.m. the officer was westbound on Aspdin Road in Muskoka Lakes Twp. and was “narrowly hit head-on by a tractor trailer.”

The tractor trailer landed in the swampy westbound ditch.

The police release Saturday says the officer quickly determined the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, but felt he may have been drinking alcohol.

Officers from the Huntsville OPP responded and they say they “found the driver to be impaired,” according to the release.

As result of the OPP investigation, Manjeet Singh Gill, 46, of Brampton was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired and Having Blood Concentration more than 80mgs under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Gill is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville Sept. 9, 2020.
