LETTER: ‘RED FRIDAYS’ FOR TROOPS NOT TEACHERS

DEAR EDITOR:

Re: “Red for Ed” teacher protest, against “the Ford government’s draconian cuts to our shared public education system.”

In my opinion, this is a disgrace to our soldiers and all Canadians who have been quietly supporting our soldiers and veterans for years with a simple act.

For years (since 2006) my husband and I have worn red clothing on Fridays, as much as possible, to show support for our Canadian troops.

This is a wonderful tradition begun by ordinary Canadians, to show support for our troops both at home and deployed overseas.

Obviously, no one did any research, nor did anyone ‘care’ about what the rest of Canada is doing.

How self-centred; a simple search on the internet would have told the teachers that THIS IDEA WAS TAKEN!!!

‘Fridays we wear red …’ is an established tribute to troops and veterans, write Jim and Cathy Calvert, who say ‘self-centred’ teachers should have known that before trying to lay claim to taken day.
