DRIVER HITS SNOWBANK, FACES DRUG-DRIVING CHARGE

GRAVENHURST — A Sunday driver turned out to be a danger to himself and others on Hwy. 11.

Provincial police say that on January 26, at 7:40 p.m., OPP officers were sent chasing a vehicle that was travelling northbound on Hwy. 11 in Gravenhurst in a reportedly “very erratic manner.”

The vehicle eventually crashed into a snowbank near Sedore Road.

Police and EMS responded to calls for help and found the accident scene, south of town.

As a result of the OPP investigation, they arrested and charged 45-year-old Jason Schell, of Georgian Bay Twp, with:

  • Impaired Operation by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a )
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Heroin) for the Purpose of Trafficking CDSA 5(1)
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle CC 320.13(1)
  • Driving While Suspended HTA 53(1)
  • Fail to Remain HTA 200(1)(a)

He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge February 11, 2020 to answer to his charges.

An accident south of Gravenhurst landed a Georgian Bay man in custody facing serveral drug and driving charges.
