GRAVENHURST — Real estate agents and brokers are always glad-handing.

Their handshake is often good enough to start deal on the sale of a house or home.

But what if that handshake was almost your last one?
Enjoy Muskoka broker/partner Dave Reid enjoyed that at a recent Ontario Real Estate Association OREA conference, where he is the realty group’s past provincial president.

One of the guest speakers was Jean Chretien, who greeted Reid with his special “Shawinigan Handshake.”

The former Liberal prime minister, who famously thwarted a protester with the same grip and grin, wished Reid happy birthday, Nov. 18.

Reid FB’d: “What a birthday present — I was choked out by Prime Minister Jean Chretien!”

“After Tim Hudak (OREA CEO) told him it was my birthday, during our Ontario Realtor Party Conference 2019, the Prime Minister kindly offered greetings and shook my hand and said he had a gift for me.

“Seconds later he puts his hand on my throat and then yells “The Shawinigan Handshake!”

“Special thanks to #OREA for this incredible opportunity and it will be a birthday I will never forget!”

Jean Chretien wishes Dave Reid ‘Happy Birthday’ at recent OREA conference.
