HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY BEGINS 72ND YEAR OCT. 15

GRAVENHURST — The Gravenhurst Horticultural Society (GHS) begins a new season on Tuesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. at the Gravenhurst Active Living Centre, 480 First St. N.

This is the first meeting of the 2019-20 year, our 72nd year.

We will be celebrating fall.

And as the scheduled speaker on canning and preserving food is unable to attend, we will still have some fun making fall or Halloween centrepieces, while we socialize after the business portion of the meeting.

Small pumpkins will be provided.

Members who still have flowers in the garden are asked to bring some to share.

This should be a fun time. Do some research on the internet to get ideas. Imagine what you can make either for fall or for Halloween.

Membership for the year is $10 and is due at the October meeting. Please bring cash or a cheque made out to the Gravenhurst Horticultural Society. Membership chair Cathie Loucks will be on hand to accommodate the renewals and new memberships.

The GHS is looking forward to a great year with speakers gearing us up with spring gardening tips of the month; as well as a paint party with Nancy Hunter at the fall 2020 awards meeting.

Other plans for the next year include a pumpkin fest next October, as well as several speakers who will help members learn how and what to do in their gardens at each meeting.

The popular annual Plant and Garden sale will take place again on Saturday, May 23, 2020. That is the Saturday after the long weekend.

This will give members a chance to enjoy the long weekend with their family and friends, while giving plants a bit longer to be ready for the sale.

We hope you will come out for some learning, socialization, refreshments and door prizes.

All welcome at each meeting. Members $2; guests $5.

New members always welcome. Green thumbs not necessary, we can help you grow them.
