DRIVER CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING PASSENGER

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES Provincial police here were busy keeping the roads safe this weekend.

On Saturday, August 24, officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP responded to a 911 call received regarding an assault in progress.

They say that information received indicated that a male driver was assaulting a female passenger in a vehicle being operated on Princess Street in Fenelon Falls.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle and the ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of the 49-year-old male party, for the Criminal Code offence of assault.

And on Friday August 23, an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP stopped a vehicle for allegedly speeding on Portage Road.

They say ensuing investigation revealed that the vehicle was not equipped with an approved ignition interlock device, as required for the vehicle driver.

As a result, Harry Terpstra, 50, of Malahide Township, was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act related offences: Speeding and Drive motor vehicle not equipped with an approved ignition interlock device.

Terpstra is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on October 1, 2019.

Kawartha OPP responded to an assault in progress and a driver who failed to have impaired driving restriction device in his vehicle.
