SECOND NORTH YORK MAN DROWNS THIS WEEK

SEVERN BRIDGE A 48-year-old North York man has been identified as the person who drowned yesterday on the Severn River.

OPP divers recovered the 48-year-old North York man’s body in the Severn River Wednesday.

Provincial police divers recovered his body Wednesday, July 24, after he was reported as missing in the morning.

OPP say that on Tuesday, just after midnight, a group of coworkers were swimming in the Severn River near Hamlet Bridge 57 when they decided to go to bed.

The following morning, the group was unable to locate one of their coworkers and police were called.

Members of the Orillia detachment, Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Central Region Canine, the Marine Unit, and Aviation Services responded and searched the area.

After an unsuccessful ground search, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) was called to conduct a search of the river.

After a short search the OPP USRU located the body of the swimmer.

The deceased has been identified as Juan Salazar-hizen.

Another North York man, Roberto Carmona, 20, drowned at the Bracebridge Falls on Sunday.
