MASSIVE FIRE BURNING AT MUSKOKA TIMBER MILLS IN BRACEBRIDGE

BRACEBRIDGE — A massive fire last night at the Muskoka Timber Mills lumber yard on Manitoba Street north could burn for several days.

The blaze just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, saw fire departments from Bracebridge and surrounding communities battle the flames that burned logs and cut wood and sent huge plumes of smoke into the night air.

The fire departments’ mutual aid program was triggered and volunteer firefighters from Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Muskoka Lakes and Lake of Bays responded with close to 100 firefighters attacking the fire from all angles to contain it.

Thursday morning the fire was still burning with hot spots being monitored.

There is no immediate cause of the fire.
