FREE BBQ SUNDAY TO THANK FLOOD VOLUNTEERS IN BRACEBRIDGE

BRACEBRIDGE — Think the Raptors party was big today, wait till Sunday when Bracebridge honours itself at a barbecue to honour the hundreds and hundreds who volunteered to help during April’s flooding.

On June 23 the town will host a BBQ and picnic at Annie Williams Memorial Park for people who filled sandbags and bailed out family, friends and strangers.

Bracebridge residents and volunteers from beyond turned out without question to fill sandbags and do whatever they could to help. Now it’s time to thank them Sunday, June 23.

In a release Monday, Mayor Graydon Smith said it is important to recognize the hard work and support that residents of Bracebridge have exhibited during the flooding that happened in town earlier this spring.

“Neighbours came out and helped neighbours; strangers came out and helped community members that they didn’t know.

“I have never been more proud to be the mayor of this great community.

“You can really get a sense about what a community is made of when a disaster happens. The outpouring of volunteerism and kindness that happened during the flood this spring was overwhelming. It reaffirms for me that our community has so much to be thankful for, not the least of which are the amazing people who call Bracebridge home.”

In celebration of the community’s spirit of volunteerism and kindness, the appreciation event will feature live music and food.

It’s free and are welcome from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Annie Williams Memorial Park, 50 Santa’s Village Rd.
