COCAINE REPLACES CANNABIS AS OPP’S CHARGE DU JOUR

HUNTSVILLE Cannabis may be legal, but now a rise in cocaine charges is keeping police busy.

Two police stops in Huntsville this weekend have led to three people facing cocaine charges.

Provincial police say that on Saturday June 15, 2019, at 10 p.m. a member of the OPP detachment here stopped a vehicle on Main Street W. for a routine traffic stop.

During the stop it was discovered that the group in the car were in possession of cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old female and 37-year-old male from Huntsville were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, cocaine under the Controlled Drug and Substances act.

The two are to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Huntsville on July 7, 2019.

The following day, on June 16, at 5:30 p.m., as a result of a traffic complaint, police stopped a pickup truck in town.

Investigation led to the arrest of a 39-year-old male from Huntsville for having possession of a schedule I drug for the purposes of trafficking — cocaine, under the Controlled Drug Substances Act.

He faces two other charges including possession of proceeds of crime and Operating a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was held for a bail hearing, set for Monday June 17, 2019.
