‘WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES’ SUNDAY MAY 26, BRACEBRIDGE

BRACEBRIDGE — Muskoka men are being asked to step up and Walk A Mile in Her Shoes Sunday, in an event to raise awareness and funds to end domestic violence in Muskoka.

Last year, more than 100 men walked in support of women across Muskoka.

Although domestic violence is a very serious matter, this event is fun and family-friendly. Bring your kids or grandkids. Bring your friends. Bring your hairy-legged friends (both people and dogs).

WHEN: Sunday, May 26 at the Bracebridge Rotary Centre.

HOW TO REGISTER: online at www.walkamilemuskoka.ca

No registration fee though they suggest setting a personal goal of $250 to $1,000.

Participants may register as an individual, join an existing team or create their own team – all ages are welcome and inter-generational teams are encouraged!

Please feel free to wear any uniform/clothing that represents your group.

High heels are provided by YWCA in sizes 9 to 17 (walkers may also opt to wear their own shoes, as they want to encourage everyone to walk with us!)

Last year dudes in high heels raised $18,000.

Their goal is to raise $27,000.

Where to the funds go?

This money will help fund YWCA Muskoka school-based and summer programs that reach children and youth during their most formative years and tackle issues that link directly to violence prevention. Our programs give young people a safe space to talk, feel heard and valued, and to learn about what’s most important to them – topics have included relationships, resolving conflicts and bullying, stress and mental health, gender stereotypes, the impact of social media, and goal setting for the future. It will also support YWCA Muskoka’s December 6th Fund, which helps women escape domestic violence by providing interest-free loans.
