POLICE CHASE MAN WHO DROVE NORTHBOUND IN SOUTHBOUND LANES

GRAVENHURST — A driver who led police on a chase on Hwy. 11 drove northbound in the southbound lanes briefly before being pulled over Saturday night.

Police pursued a driver who turned around after seeing an OPP road block.

Provincial police had Hwy. 11 southbound closed south of Gravenhurst for a report of a driver driving the wrong way on the highway at 11 p.m.

They say an unrelated vehicle approached the road block in the southbound lanes.

Noticing the police cruiser, the driver stopped, turned around and drove away, headed north in the southbound lanes.

The suspect vehicle was confronted by another police officer travelling southbound on Hwy 11.

Police say the driver stopped temporarily before driving through the grass median and continuing north, now headed in the northbound lanes.

Police engaged in a short pursuit before the driver pulled over and was subsequently arrested.

Police arrested and charged 42 year-old Michael Gillroy — of no fixed address — with Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle CC 320.13(1), Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b) and Flight from Peace Officer CC 320.17.

He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on June 25, 2019, to answer to his charges.
