Historic Huntsville farmhouse destroyed in fire Saturday

HUNTSVILLE A beautiful Saturday morning began at sunrise a with historic Huntsville farmhouse burning to the ground.

Huntsville fire crews were called out at 6 a.m. to the Britannia Road farmhouse Saturday.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire just before 6 a.m. on Britannia Road.

They said that upon arrival crews encountered heavy fire in the attic area of the two-storey 100-year-old farmhouse.

Two additional pumpers were brought in from Port Sydney Station 3 to assist with water shuttle operations.

The occupants noticed smoke inside the home and noticed flames in the second storey. They safely evacuated along with their pets.

One male was assessed by Muskoka Paramedic Services for minor smoke inhalation and was released.

The home is a total loss with damage estimated at $350,000.

The cause and circumstances of the fire are currently under investigation.
