Black Friday ends with Tree Lighting in Gravenhurst

GRAVENHURST — UpTown, Downtown, call it what you want,

Before the Tree Lighting there was a calm anticipation of much fun to come.

But Gravenhurst’s business core was open for business as the sun set on Black Friday.

That’s when the lights came on a Christmas Tree at the Opera House tonight under a bright, shining full moon.

Dozens of hardy and hearty souls braved minus temperature chills to welcome in the Christmas season on the eve of the Chamber of Commerce Santa Claus parade Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

It was part of the chamber’s monthly Business After Hours night, this time co-sponsored by Rombo’s Pizza and the National Bank, which gave out $20 and $50 gift cards.

With Junior and Rascal parked out front for horse-drawn carriage rides up Muskoka Road to Sawdust City and back, pizza across the street at Rombos and the vault open at the National Bank, it was a fitting way to kick off a month to Christmas.

And the tree looked good this year, a tall spruce — standing about 20 feet — it was nicely decorated and made for a matching pair next to the OP’s new frosty front doors.

Only this time the doors really were frosty.

And the light standards were newly festooned with pine boughs tied with red ribbons this week

It looks like it’s going to be a good time in Gravenhurst these next four weeks.

Come join them for some holiday cheer.

Junior and Rascal were a hit with the kids and their moms as they waited for the Tree Lighting Friday night.
It was cold, but Junior and Rascal don’t need coats when working. They get them for the ride home in the trailer.

Dressed for night and wrapped in a warm blanket made for a comfortable ride up main street for these five.
The turnaround at Sharpe Street and Muskoka Road was the start of a trip up to the Royal Bank and back.
While Chamber After Hours participants were in Rombo’s munching pizza, the carriage made its rounds.
The lit up Christmas tree makes for perfect matching pair in front of the Opera House.
